Blackberry 7100
· Get capital letters by holding the key. Alternatively press # (lower right) and then the key.
· To mark (highlight) more than one message, perhaps to delete more than one at a time, use the shift key at the lower right, the one with #.
· The Alt key is the one on the left just under YX. Use Alt and YX (Sym) to enter special characters, of which there are 2 pages.
· Get capital letters by holding the key
· OP tuns on the speakerphone
· During flights: Settings, Turn Wireless Off
Suggested settings
· Settings, Options, Screen/Keyboard change Font Style to Bold
· Get a decent dashboard

(This is the Vodafone version 7100v. Klick for the German red and blue appearances. See the T-Mobile version.)
Settings, Options, Theme, set to Default
How to get a pure white background see below, how other “Themes” for example here. (There only the download link under here works, I’m told by Klemens Pidner.)
· Rid yourself of unwanted icons: select the item, Alt, press wheel, Hide Application. – Reverse with same procedure and “Show All”, remove the × with another “Hide Application” command onto it.
· Settings, Options, Language, Name Display: Last name, First name
· Settings, Options, Owner
· Settings, Options, Date/Time, Time Zone, “Amsterdam, Berlin (+1)”
· Messages, click the wheel for the menu, Options, Email Reconciliation, Delete On: Mailbox & Handheld; On Conflicts: Handheld Wins. This gives you full mobile control.
· Settings, Options, SMS, Delivery Reports: On, and Save
You will now see (free of charge) a little D above the message’s blue tick when the SMS was actually delivered to the phone, e. g. when your friend has landed etc.
· Let it beep during the day ...
Profiles set to Default, click, Menu, Edit, Level 1 Messages, Edit, Out of Holster: Tone, Volume: Low, Save (don’t forget); Messages, Edit, Out of Holster: Tone, Volume: Low, Save
Level 1 Messages can be definded as such in the fowarding web software, e. g. wife, boss.
Holster means: a little magnet in the holster told the classic Blackberries that you stuffed them away. The 7100v has no magentic switch.
· ... and sleep at night: Settings, Options, Auto On/Off
· If you (lightheartedly) don’t want to enter the pin code: Settings, Options, SIM Card, click for menue, Disable Security
· Hang on to it

Get a bit of thin fishing line and pull it under the rear cover hook, ideally with your knot within, under the plastic hook. Then reset the cover. You can now elegantly attatch your 7100 to a neck chain. It’s nearly invisible.(If you drop a mobile phone into water: remove the battery to prevent shorts; rinse, if the water was salty or dirty; let dry – for a long time.)
· Browser: get into the menu by Alt-key plus wheel; Refresh manually if you think a page has changed
· To get the messages you sent from your Blackberry into your Outlook’s Sent Items folder:
either build a simple Outlook rule that will shift all incoming mails with yourself as sender into the Sent Items folder (and mark as read) and have the Blackberry web client bcc you (Profile, Auto-BCC), or—if you want to be Blackberry specific—(Thank you, William Erb, for this tip!)
1) Set up a new e-mail address
2) Use BlackBerry web client (Profile, Auto-BCC) to automatically send a bcc: to the new e-mail address
3) Set up a rule in your e-mail client to move any message sent through the specified new e-mail account into the Sent Items folder and to mark it as read, and then you will have a record on your PC of all messages sent from the BlackBerry. (Note: Your rule may not work if you set it to move messages sent to the new e-mail address rather than through the new e-mail account because it will not be able to detect bcc: addresses.)
If this won’t work as bcc names are not shown in your input, use your name as sender (else replys would remain unseen) plus some unique text within your automatic Blackberry signature to trigger Outlook, e. g. “Sent from Joe Bloe’s Blackberry”.
